Define how and when you are notified when you are the on-call person -- email, SMS, and push notifications with configurable delays.
Personal Notification Rules
Notification rules let you control how you are contacted when you are the on-call person and an incident fires. Instead of receiving all alerts through a single channel, you can set up a sequence of escalating personal notifications with increasing urgency.
How it works
When Seenty needs to notify you as the on-call person, it follows your notification rule sequence:
- Email is sent immediately -- This is the default and cannot be removed. Every on-call notification starts with an email.
- Additional rules fire in order -- Each rule you add has a delay (in minutes) and a contact method. If you have not acknowledged the incident by the time the delay expires, the next rule fires.
For example, you might configure:

This layered approach ensures that urgent incidents eventually reach you through a louder channel, without bombarding you with SMS and push notifications for every minor alert.
Setting up notification rules
Navigate to notification settings
Go to Settings > Notification Rules. You will see your default email rule, which is always present.
Add a new rule
Click Add Rule and configure:
- Contact method -- Choose Email, SMS, or Push
- Delay -- How many minutes to wait after the initial notification before this rule fires (e.g., 5 minutes)
Rules are processed in order of their delay. A rule with a 5-minute delay fires 5 minutes after the initial notification, regardless of the order you created them.
Verify your phone (for SMS)
To receive SMS notifications, you must first verify your phone number:
- Go to Settings > Account
- Enter your phone number
- Click Verify -- Seenty sends a one-time code via SMS
- Enter the code to complete verification
SMS notifications will not be sent to unverified phone numbers.
Set up push notifications (for Push)
To receive push notifications:
- Install the Seenty mobile app on your iOS or Android device
- Log in with your Seenty account
- When prompted, allow push notifications
Your device is automatically registered for push notifications once you log in. No additional configuration is needed.
Review and save
Review your notification sequence. Seenty shows a preview of the timeline -- which channel fires at which delay -- so you can verify the flow before saving.

SMS and push notifications are available on Starter plans and above. Hobby users receive email-only notifications.
Important behavior details
Rules are personal. Each team member configures their own notification rules independently. When Seenty resolves who is on-call and needs to notify them, it uses that specific person's rules.
Acknowledgment stops the sequence. If you acknowledge an incident before a delayed rule fires, the remaining rules are skipped. For example, if you acknowledge within 3 minutes, your 5-minute SMS rule will never fire.
Rules apply to on-call notifications only. These rules control notifications when you are the on-call person in an escalation step. They do not affect direct notification channels configured on the monitor itself.
Delays are cumulative from the initial notification. A rule with a 5-minute delay fires 5 minutes after the first notification, not 5 minutes after the previous rule.
